Although the play had been slightly different, for some reason South did not finesse heartQ at the table. He had a further hiccup in the play and eventually lost 300.

The correct line after leading a diamond at trick two is to finesse heartQ when East switches to a heart, ruff a low diamond and lead a high club. Say East wins clubA and continues with heartK. Declarer wins heartA, pitches a heart from dummy on diamondK, ruffs a heart and leads a trump to confine East to his two minor suit aces. +550. Incidentally, how would you fancy your chances of finding a heart lead from that West hand?
