From the auction it appears that East will have the big cards in hearts and clubs and West's hand will be distributional in the pointed suits. Although it's not immediately clear, you cannot afford to throw a diamond on spadeA because you may need to maximise your entries to dummy if East turns out to have all three missing clubs.
