When East ruffed the third round of hearts with spadeJ South simply threw a losing club, but that was not good enough. East continued with diamondAQ10 and West ruffed South's jack. West played another round of hearts and when East ruffed with spadeQ West's spade9 was promoted for the setting trick.
And in the original room? Sure enough, South ruffed a diamond, cashed only one top heart and followed with three rounds of trumps. Eight tricks. Ironically enough the hand plays better in 2heart as one North was happy to find when South passed 2heart. He won the opening spade lead, and immediately led a diamond. He eventually made five trump tricks and the three obvious black winners for a straightforward 110.
