. . . you play on North's fears of an impending end-play. When you cash diamondA sure enough North drops diamondK under your ace, so now you cross to dummy with a club - (you did retain an entry, didn't you?) and lead diamond10 to pin North's nine. Eleven tricks and almost a complete top.

Of course North should not have unblocked. His play would gain when South started with diamondQJx, but that leaves West with a disgusting opening bid for someone second in hand, vulnerable.
