South, French international Claude Delmouly found the brilliant switch of heartK! Declarer won heartA immediately to take the diamond finesse, but now South won diamondQ and reverted to spades, killing dummy stone dead. East would have made more tricks by ducking heartA and establishing the spades, but his side were already booked for a poor board.

This was a truly wonderful defence and fully deserved the top score that it produced for North-South.
