Not only that, but when South mistakenly ducks and you continue with heart7 your partner has to show some genius too by playing low. South wins heartA and leads a club but you will rise with the king, cash diamondA and revert to hearts. By retaining his heartK East has enabled the defence to win four hearts to go with the two diamonds and a club. Had you won the first diamond with the ace or either of you blocked the hearts then declarer would have escaped unscathed after his sloppy attempt at overtricks. He should have crossed to hand in spades to lead a club up before his heartA had been removed. (Not to mention his failure to win the first heart).

In the end this defence could only reduce the East-West loss ...
