I deliberately didn't tell you about East's continuation at trick two - no doubt you were hoping for another diamond. That would have left you with the possibility of ruffing two clubs in dummy - albeit with the vague threat of a trump promotion if West had three trumps. Well, would you have ruffed a low diamond continuation from East with a high spade or low one? Anyway, that's all academic because East unkindly switches to a trump.
