With two potential trump suits and excellent values, why not offer partner a choice of destination with 5NT? That's how East reasoned at the table and West's bid of 6diamond closed the auction. As you can see, although 6diamond had excellent prospects, South's big pre-empt had done its job, for 7spade would have been almost as good. Do you blame West for not bidding 6spade? Would you have felt comfortable passing over 6spade as East?

Anyway, moving rapidly around to the West seat - how would you have played 6diamond on club5 lead?
