Double dummy analyser: makeable contracts
North correctly deduced that East must hold trump length, for surely with fewer than four he would have ruffed in an attempt to create something for his partner. So after ruffing the heart with club2 North cashed dummy's clubQJ, returned to spadeK and cashed clubAK. You can see what was happening to West's hand - he had to find two discards on the trumps. diamondK could be spared, but it was a heart or a spade for the next one and either would suit North admirably. A spade would give declarer a fourth winner in that suit and a heart would allow North to establish an extra heart trick, using spadeQ as an entry.
