OK. Here's what the successful declarers did. They led a diamond from the North hand at trick two. Here's why:-
a) The diamonds might break 3-3
b) If East had a doubleton honour he might play low, blocking the suit.
c) If East won with a doubleton honour then he might not continue the suit - even if a club was ducked to him
d) A defender (presumably West) might cash four diamonds and squeeze his partner.

The most cunning of the successful declarers was Turkish wizard Melih Ozdil - he led diamond2 at trick two. Is that difficult for East to rise with diamondQ - or what!?
