How about dropping diamondJ on South's king? That's exactly what East did at the table and South felt justified in playing a diamond to dummy's eight. East won with the nine, and although spadeQ switch was second best, declarer was forced to concede a diamond to West's queen in order to establish diamond4. West made no mistake in switching to a club and now South was restricted to three diamonds, three hearts and the two black aces.
