This is quite a well-known hand so you may have remembered it. East-West were the famous "Meckwell" pair - Jeff Meckstroth and Eric Rodwell. North led a spade (a black suit was clearly called for) so Rodwell took the first nine tricks and clocked up +750. Had North led a club then North-South could have taken the first ten tricks (cash five clubs, South switches to heartJ) and Pakistan would have registered +2200.
