South had found the best lead. From this position it should have been possible to defeat the contract by three. On winning the second spade South cashes clubA and leads a heart to North's queen for a club ruff. After heartA, club ruff and a diamond exit declarer must lose seven tricks!

Perhaps North could have helped by making a negative double over 2club, making the heart switch even more obvious, but when South led a diamond at trick three (because East "had not bid 3NT"), 3spade went through.
