If you went on over 5heart you must be very confident of your partner's ability. Fortunately North was the very experienced Scottish international, Barnet Shenkin, now living in America. I'm sure that his partner, A.H. Duncan, would have passed if the hand had occurred today, but Shenkin and Duncan were then juniors. Both players had done too much - ah, the folly of youth.
