The trouble was that North followed to clubA with the queen! So now he must be 3-7-3-1.......not a shape you see very often. Eventually declarer asked about the defensive carding methods - they were playing reverse count! All had become clear - presumably South was showing heart?3 doubleton at trick one, and therefore North's shape must be 3-6-3-1. Declarer now had a new problem:- assuming that North has the heart king - with which card should he exit? The eight would be the right card if North started with heartK109xxx, but if South had either the nine or the ten then the jack was West's correct card.
