West led a trump, so declarer won in dummy, cashed three top clubs to pitch his heart loser and followed with three rounds of spades. When the spades didn't break and the defence returned a second trump, declarer was doomed.

Looking at the deal you can that West need not have been worried about a major suit squeeze .. East had all the hearts covered! But if, after cashing heartA West switches to a trump, South simply wins and rattles off all his trumps to squeeze West in the black suits!! Declarer could have got home on the actual lead by winning and cashing five trumps, squeezing West without the count.
