I guess that there might be two schools of thought here - you either bid the whole hand immediately with a leap to 5 or start conservatively with a simple overcall with the expectation of making further constructive bids with partner's cooperation. No contest as far as I am concerned - I strongly agree with the 5 bid made at the table.
