Whether it would have had some other meaning I know not, but 4diamond - which surely cannot be natural and must mean "pick a major" - stands out for me. At the table West closed her eyes and punted 4spade.

Yes, 4heart is the place to be, but how would play 4spade on North's lead of spade3? You play low from dummy and win South's nine with your ten. Over to you.
