In the room where 6spade was the contract declarer threw a diamond from dummy on the opening heart lead, won with the ace and plonked spadeA on the table. If South showed out the trump finesse would be available and there would be two chances for the overtrick:- the clubs might play for five tricks or the diamond finesse might be right.

Alternatively, if North showed out on spadeA, declarer could ruff a heart, cash spadeK and play on clubs. Eventually South would be end-played with spadeQ to lead away from diamondK or concede a ruff and discard.
