~ two places to play

Not easy, but either a trump or diamond will do. On a trump continuation, although South can win to play ace and another spade for an end-play, West can now play another spade to give South a ruff and discard. Declarer takes the ruff in dummy and ditches a diamond from hand, but now there are only two trumps in his hand to cope with three diamond losers. South makes the contract if West exits with a diamond.

East can beat the contract most easily at trick three by returning a diamond - now West has now end-play problems at all. But at the table .
