At the table East switched to a small heart and declarer finessed the queen. After cashing diamondAQ declarer led club10, mistakenly covered by West. South rattled off dummy's trumps and poor East was squeezed in three suits. Eventually South came to ten tricks.

You might think that neither defender did anything particularly stupid - but it still resulted in minus 1910. Who would you have blamed - East or West?
