A gentle round of applause for those who sussed out that both problems are from the same deal! After South's outrageous psyche West was completely stymied. He and his partner's methods included optional doubles over pre-empts so, after eventually passing, West was perhaps not in the best frame of mind to defend competently and 3heart went a mere six off. Any votes for 3NT on those West cards?!!

At the other table after a club lead West racked up an overtrick in 5heart doubled to score 1050. Even on the impossible defence of ace and another heart West can get home. He wins, draws the last trump, cashes his black suit winners and exits with diamondJ. North wins but is end-played.
