I had a complete blind spot. Instead of sensibly going up with the ace and playing king and another, I ducked in the hope of a continuation. South was quick to win and switch to a diamond, ruffed by North. Although I was able to win North's heart switch and draw trumps to make the rest, it was too late. Nine IMPs and a good story down the drain. (North had played in 2heart minus one at the other table).

Had West bid 3diamond over East's 2spade instead of the imaginative raise to 3spade then the final contract might have been a pushy but more reasonable 5diamond. It was suggested that this would go off on the defence of two club leads .
