Although the theorists might recommend making an overcall on such hands, over North's 1club I started with a double in the hope of creating a difference. It certainly had the desired effect, for the almost "laydown" 4spade was not reached at the other table. The double had worked out quite well when I was able to bid 2spade, already knowing partner was short in hearts. After a raise from partner I went on to game, but the sight of dummy was something of a shock. South leads club2 and North wins with the king and continues with a small club. Over to you.
