As the cards lay at the table, South ruffs the third round of diamonds but if South continues with another club you can still get home in the fashion described on the previous page.

Note that if you cash heartAK when the trumps are 3-2 and the diamonds are 3-1 then you would still be looking at the loss of a trump, a diamond and two clubs. Unless heartQJ is a doubleton then it's the two-two diamond break that's required on this deal, but you can cope with some of 4-1 trump breaks.

Note also that eleven tricks are trivial in diamonds and even twelve tricks are possible on this layout.
