The trouble with opening at the two level is that you'll be bidding your primary suit for the first time at the three level and no doubt you will be desperate to introduce these hearts somewhere along the line.

At the table a l-o-l (little old lady) opened with a game forcing 2diamond, heard her s-y-l (slightly younger lady) partner make a negative 2heart, and bid 3diamond as prescribed above. West wasn't sure where to go and raised to 4diamond, allowing East to get her hearts in at the game level and a content West to pass quickly. Without wishing to appear too condescending or patronising, it had been a highly effective auction at match points for anyone not wanting to advance beyond game.

How would you have played on the spade lead?
