You might regard the first four bids as almost automatic - but East's situation is one you will be well advised to have discussed with your regular partner. Should 2 guarantee three hearts? Does 2 show six diamonds? Should 2NT have better clubs than Kx? Personally I'd rather prefer 2NT to rebidding that anaemic diamond suit again - 2NT doesn't necessarily rule out a heart contract either. Perhaps you would have avoided East's dilemma, and I apologise to our American readers who are grimacing at this suggestion, by opening with 1NT originally! At the table East quietly rebid 2 and now it was West's turn to ponder.
