When South took the double diamond finesse he was hoping that both diamondQJ were with East of course, but failing that he hoped that diamondAK would bring down the other honour and that the defence could or would not contrive to take three quick club winners. Dummy's fourth diamond would then be available for a club discard in hand.

South's other possible line of drawing trumps, eliminating hearts and playing ace, king and another diamond would have worked fine - the defence cannot take three quick club tricks whatever declarer does. Did your line work?
