That was your chance to get a top the easy way - by simply bidding 3NT. The double-dummy play in 3NT is interesting, but in practice East would almost always get home. For some reason 3NT did not occur to East and he jumped to 5club, doubled by South. Apart from the fact that 5club would not be likely to score as well as 3NT, the other disadvantage of 5club is that partner would be playing it! A likely heart through your heartKJx would not be an ideal start and, sure enough, West had to contend with heart10 lead. How would you have played?
