That was your chance to get a top the easy way - by simply bidding 3NT. The double-dummy play in 3NT is interesting, but in practice East would almost always get home. For some reason 3NT did not occur to East and he jumped to 5, doubled by South. Apart from the fact that 5 would not be likely to score as well as 3NT, the other disadvantage of 5 is that partner would be playing it! A likely heart through your KJx would not be an ideal start and, sure enough, West had to contend with 10 lead. How would you have played?
