Would you have passed after partner's warning double - I hope so! If you had bid 7diamond there would be a possibility of North entering the auction with 7spade! It's not often you score an 87.5% board for scoring +100 with two cold grand slams your way! As you can see North is also cold for 7spade and this contract was reached at three quarters of the tables. Both West and East did very well with their choice of bids - if West had opened 1diamond can you imagine South's reaction to North's overcall in spades? Had East taken a match points decision to jump to 6heart and compete with 7diamond over 7club then North would have had a fairly obvious 7spade bid. Incidentally, what do you think of North's decision to remain silent throughout? And Eric's question .
