Declarer played a small diamond to the eight and king, but West ducked!!! South continued with a diamond finesse so East won the jack and punched dummy with two rounds of hearts. Declarer naturally took the ruffing diamond finesse but you can imagine his reaction when West turned up with the ace.

Well, would you have read the diamond situation correctly?

The opportunity to defend like this happens far more often we think, but it's only when a defender makes such a clever play that we really notice.
