If declarer has clubK and good trumps the contract will be cold - so assume he doesn't. That being so, where are his tricks coming from? Declarer must also have some diamonds - otherwise why has partner not raised? Eventually you come to the conclusion that a cross-ruff is likely to be declarer's only viable line, so a trump must be right. Declarer cannot draw trumps and ruff diamonds and and leave an entry in dummy to reach spade10 at the end. Whatever line declarer takes, nine tricks will be his maximum.
