It's OK if your methods include 2NT for the minors, but what would you have done with those North cards in an unfamiliar partnership? North took 2NT to show a flat 18-19 and raised to game. As you can see, South conceded a big penalty, but the comfort lay in the four-one break in diamonds - 4heart was cold! That turned out to be of academic interest when West played in 2heart plus two at the other table.
So here, with tongue firmly in cheek, is my invaluable advice for situations when the opposition are cold for game and you are sitting there wondering whether to reopen. Don't.
