In L's own word "OK - so I got it wrong, I ditched it. Declarer, possibly thinking club8 must be worthless, disposed of it. I can see no other explanation and certainly couldn't ask

Declarer now led heartQ from dummy, won by North, who cashed three club tricks. Declarer's 'unusual' play at trick one had blocked the clubs and so he was heading for a better score than the routine 420 chalked up in 4spade at most of the other tables. But we are sure this was not done deliberately!"
