Declarer inserted the queen and was no doubt relieved to see it hold the trick. A diamond was led from the dummy, and North climbed with the ace to switch to a trump, won by East's spadeA. Another diamond put South in with the king and he continued with heartK, no doubt in the hope that North was now void. Declarer won the ace, North following, crossed to hand with spadeK and ruffed a diamond as South showed out. North threw a diamond on dummy's last heart, so declarer ruffed, drew the last trump and exited with diamond9.
