West made a silly selection, opting for 3NT instead of 4heart. His rationale was that if the hearts broke unkindly it would be South that had the length, so any established spades would be inaccessible. The fallacy in that argument is that if the hearts broke badly how would 3NT be coming home?

You can imagine what East thought when dummy went down, but how should he play on spadeQ lead?
