Double dummy analyser: makeable contracts
West North East South
3spade Pass
Pass Dble Pass 4heart
Pass Pass Pass
Not only that, but after North's double there might be a case for South to Pass! East will no doubt emerge with at least +590 in 3spade doubled, but if North-South reach 4heart then West well may apply the axe and South could soon be writing down minus 1100. As for 3NT, that's booked for three or four off too, but it is much more difficult for the defence to double.

In the actual match both Souths did bid 4heart and as it was early in the match neither West doubled. Both Souths played poorly and emerged with a mere five tricks! They were lucky.
