Declarer was Aaron Goodman, and he wasn't asleep. After winning spadeQ he crossed to clubQ and when the ten fell, returned to the nine in hand. After hearing East's comment about beating the contract with a diamond lead there could be only one explanation, and Goodman played a diamond to dummy's ten!

Perhaps from there onwards West might have become less inclined to say silly things during the auction ..and East less inclined to say silly things afterwards.
