. . . surely he must have at least four clubs, and so the winning line is to cash heartQ throwing diamond9 as planned, ruff a diamond and lead a low club towards the jack. Assuming that West has four of the five missing clubs this line must be playing with the odds, but can you imagine what Result Merchant partner might say if East turned up with a singleton clubQ?!

Note that it's not good enough to cash clubA before leading a low one, for West will hop up with the queen and lead a diamond. Although you still have a trump left the clubs are now blocked.
