It can be a big mistake to pre-empt with these hands - mediocre suit, two aces. In a recent Gold Cup match a former European Champion had almost this exact hand type (but singleton spade, A9x) and his 3 pre-empt, admittedly over a 1 on his right, caught partner with something like xx - AKQx KQ10xxxx. 6 was cold, but +170 did not compensate.
