Look at it from East's point of view:- if he wins the trump at trick two and plays a spade then he'll be convinced that diamond10 will be on the table at trick four. Ironically that is the only way for declarer to succeed on the trump switch, but none of the original declarers played like that. They won diamondA, ruffed a heart and took the club finesse. They were one off. All those Norths who switched to a club at trick two received their just reward - minus 600. What else .....
