Benito Garozzo for Italy timed the play correctly. He cashed heartKQ at tricks three and four and next ruffed a club. Declarer's diamond2 went on heartA and a cross-ruff successfully saw declarer home.

The well-known principle of cashing your side suit winners before embarking on a cross-ruff had been proven correct once again.
