. . . several pairs overstretched on this deal. This usually involved the Wests leaping to 4diamond showing a void and then, apart from a couple of disciplined individuals who judged very well, continuing over East's 4spade sign-off. You can see that there is a maximum of ten tricks in a spade contract if the defence is accurate, and wherever East-West overstretched to the five level the defence avoided the diamond lead that would have allowed two heart discards from the West hand. Justice indeed.
