At the table West liked his diamond suit and promoted his hand to one worthy of a 2NT (20-22) opener - not the greatest crime you'll ever see at the bridge table. East could barely judge to pass, even at this mode of scoring where it is not so crucial to bid thin games, and raised to 3NT.
