The trouble with that club winner was that declarer could not get at it, so when East cashed spadeJ South unblocked the nine!!!!! What could East do now? To continue with spade8 would squeeze his partner in the minor suits and to play a club would allow dummy to win clubQ and declarer to make spade6 en passant. An extraordinary play indeed.
