A very uninspired West led a low spade and this whistled round to declarer's ten. A diamond went to the three, nine and queen, so East hurriedly switched to a heart to knock-out dummy's highly visible entry. On winning with diamondA East reverted to a spade and declarer wrapped the rest of the tricks with spadeA, four diamonds and four clubs.

Look what a low heart can do! Dummy wins and declarer comes to hand for a diamond lead. East wins and switches to a spade, ruining South's tenace position. The defence win two hearts, three spades and two diamonds - five tricks difference from the actual result. Did West blame himself? No I didn't!
