At another table North's sound technique of rising with heartA at trick two paid off in an unexpected way . faced with the real prospect of the defence clearing up after the lead was lost, East decided that two bites of the cherry would be better than one. Accordingly he cashed two diamonds ending in dummy, hoping for a pleasant surprise, but when diamondQ failed to drop he naively took the heart finesse. He didn't make any more tricks and the pleasant surprise belonged to the defence. East West -300. No doubt our American friends will be shaking their heads at the folly of the Weak No Trump!
