Personally I would always pass at adverse or equal vulnerability on this hand. No doubt this would certainly result in a few games missed our way and a few more successful ones bid by the opposition, but that must be balanced against the many occasions when partner gets over excited on a medium strength hand. If the spades and hearts are reversed there is better case for bidding, for a heart lead from West against a South contract would probably be OK. At one table East was of the conservative school and passed 1heart. How would you play from the Wset hand on a small heart lead? South plays the ten.
