. . . what does North do? If he goes in with the king you can now ruff out the ace and if he inserts the jack or ten you must cover. South will win and return a spade - end-playing North. Either he opens up the diamonds, when you will play for split honours, or he leads a spade and gives a trick there.

What happened at our table? East liked the look of the opposition and cheekily opened 1NT. After a transfer sequence East played in 4heart and South led a diamond, so ten tricks were easy.
