Declarer was deceived too! If he simply wins the opening lead and cashes all his spade and diamond winners South is still caught in a nasty ending. The requirements are that South has heartK - always the case - and clubA (or clubK10). This is the five card ending as dummy cashes the last diamond. What does South throw? A heart would allow three sure winners in that suit and a club discard means that a heart finesse and club exit end-plays South for a further heart finesse. 12 tricks!
